Join us in Revolutionizing Sanitation!
We, at BeST – Bengaluru Science & Technology Cluster a, are excited to announce a groundbreaking initiative aimed at addressing the critical issue of manual scavenging and its associated problems. Manual scavenging not only undermines human dignity but also perpetuates caste barriers, hindering social progress and equality. It is high time we unite to eradicate this practice and create a more inclusive and progressive society.
One of the recent innovations developed at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is a robotic obstacle remover that can be deployed as an alternative to manual scavengers. The device is waterproof, runs on battery, with camera mounts that can relay object identification information back to the remote operator. Specific tools can then be deployed based on the type of obstruction. We invite, through this EOI, all parties who are interested in building this technology further:
- Funders, both governmental and non-governmental, venture capitalists, individuals,
- Industrial automation partners
- High tensile waterproof material manufacturers
- Long-duration compact waterproof battery suppliers
- Policy makers

Our prototype aligns with the National Safai Mitra Challenge and the NAMASTE Initiative (National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem) of Government of India, which prioritizes the use of technology in sanitation and the welfare of sanitation workers.
